Department of Agriculture Farm Mechanization Program

Sta. Maria Corners DA Projects

The municipality of Sta. Maria, with its large expanse of agricultural land continues to top the other towns in the 4th District of Bulacan as recipient of most of the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) programs. Just recently, one of its barangays, Brgy. Pulong Buhangin, as been similarly experienced by other program recipients, roundly pitched in to tow home the farm machinery equipment requested by the Pulong Buhangin Palay Vegetable Grower Association, headed by Mr. Orlando DG. Flores, from DA’s Region Office 3 in Pampanga under its Farm Mechanization Program. Needless to say, the Municipal Agriculture Officer of Sta. Maria, Ms. Imelda Eugenio, had been hard at work in close coordination with the office of Rep. Villarica’s office for the proper validation of the farmers’ groups as required by the program. Three other farmer’s cooperatives— the United Balasing Farmers Association headed by Mr. Marlon Gravador, Tumana Farmers Association headed by Mr. Christopher dela Cruz, and Sta. Maria Vegetable Growers Association headed by Mr. Joseph Sarmiento— received various post-harvest facility/equipment such as knapsack sprayers, collapsible dryer cases, threshers and a mini four-wheel tractor in March 2014. They were similarly assisted by their barangays for the equipments’ transport. A  300 sqm multi-purpose drying pavement as well as a palay shed are also to be built on the selected associations' land area.

Among the DA’s more recent farm to market roads constructed in Sta. Maria are: Guyong to Pulong Buhangin, and Pulong Bokawe in Brgy. Mag-asawang Sapa. A milk-feeding Program that benefited 104 school children of the Sta. Maria Central School located in Brgy. Poblacion was also sponsored by the office of Rep. Villarica,  in coordination with the National Dairy Authority of the Department of Agriculture (NDA-DA) from August 2013 to March 2014. Launched in August 1, 2013, throughout its full implementation, the program was presided by teacher Eva C. Villanueva and complimentary snacks for the school children were also provided by the representative.
